Beavis And Butthead Returning To Television?

So here’s a crazy rumor: Mike Judge is planning to revive Beavis & Butthead and bring them back to TV for 30 new episodes, possibly on MTV, according to a random reporter for the Examiner. Treat this as nothing more than a crazy rumor for now, but it’s not entirely impossible.

Back in 2009 Judge exclusively told us here that he hadn’t “closed the door” on doing more with MTV’s famously rude and crude teenage duo. Back then he suggested that if he brought them back, he’d probably age them. Judge told us, “I keep wanting to do something with them being like old, in their 60s, two dirty old men sitting on a couch. I've got various drawings of them old, two of which became their dads in the movie.”

If this rumor’s valid, that could be exactly what he’s planning for their return to television. The Examiner’s rumor suggests though, that technically at least, he’d stick with the ghetto, grungy, asthetic of the show and keep it about two guys sitting on a couch watching videos. The real problem with sticking with that as the format is that, of course, MTV no longer really plays music videos. Can Beavis & Butthead resurrect them as a viable programming option? I’d love to think so.

Beavis & Butthead made something of a comeback late last year to help promote Mike Judge’s new movie Extract. Unfortunately their promotion of the movie was far better than anything in the movie itself. Here they are, the last time we saw them, talking about Extract:
