Boardwalk Empire Season 3 Trailer: Things May Never Be The Same For Nucky

With its second season premiere last December, Boardwalk Empire crossed a line that can't be uncrossed, both as a series and specifically in the life of corrupt Atlantic City Treasurer Enoch "Nucky" Thompson (Steve Buscemi). With the shocking death of a character we'll refrain from naming for any of you who aren't caught up on the series yet, it became clear that the writers were underscoring the fact that Boardwalk Empire, despite any appearances to the contrary, is Nucky's story. It also demonstrated that Nucky is beyond the days of keeping his hands clean of the truly dirty crimes. His hands are bloody, and those stains don't wash off. As this new trailer for Boardwalk City's third season puts it, "You can't be half a gangster."

Boardwalk Empire's third season will pick up 15 months after the events of the previous season finale, on New Year's Eve 1922. According to creator Terrence Winter, Nucky will be dealing with tons of new problems and factors, including the ascendance of mobsters such as Al Capone.

Boardwalk Empire returns to HBO on Sunday, September 16th.
