Brothers And Sisters Picked Up For A Full Season

Despite less than stellar ratings, ABC has picked up ‘Brothers and Sisters’ for a full season. When the network moved their hit show ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ to Thursdays and slid the new show ‘Brothers and Sisters’ into the 10 pm timeslot, its likely that they hoped ‘Brothers’ would have the same success that ‘Greys’ did in Sunday night spot following ‘Desperate Housewives’.

TV.com reported that ‘Desperate Housewives’ hasn’t maintained the high ratings it scored in its season premiere. That’s not to say that ABC isn’t ruling Sunday nights at the moment. Between ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’, ‘Housewives’ and ‘Brothers and Sisters’, the network has little competition. It doesn’t hurt that CBS’s NFL keeps bumping ’60 Minutes’ and the shows that follow (including ‘The Amazing Race’) back a half an hour.

‘Brothers and Sisters’ wasn’t one of the shows that was expected to do well this season. The ratings dropped over 20 percent after the season premiere. ABC obviously believes the show will catch on though because it’s giving it a full season.

Editorial: As a viewer who was among the 20% who didn’t tune in to see the episodes that followed the premiere of ‘Brothers and Sisters’, I felt that while the show had a stellar cast, it lacked a hook to make me want to see more. ‘Desperate Housewives’ has its quirky soapy dramedy and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ has the medical drama mixed in with great writing, likable characters and a ridiculous amount of bed-hopping. ‘Brothers and Sisters’ had a bunch of siblings disagreeing with each other. With all of the new shows this season, its going to take more than that to get me to stay up to watch it.
