The CW has finally announced a premiere date for the network’s Sex and the City prequel, The Carrie Diaries. if you’ve been keeping even remote tabs on the CW’s lineup, you’ll know one of the network's programs, Gossip Girl, will be ending next month. That leaves a Monday timeslot open, and the teenage-oriented, fashion and friendship drama will slide right into the Monday night lineup.

According to EW, The Carrie Diaries will premiere on Monday, January 14. It’s really no surprise The Carrie Diaries will be heading into the Monday night lineup, and not simply because of the convenience of the slot opening up. Like Gossip Girl, The Carrie Diaries will have a focus on fashion (although it should be more vocal this time around), a teen plotline, and a New York City setting. Yes, it will be set in the 1980’s, but overall, the show should seamlessly take over where Gossip Girl left off and will hopefully be a good countershow to The CW’s other Monday night program, 90210, which is movie to the 9 p.m. ET timeslot.

The Carrie Diaries has been gearing up for a series premiere for a while, now, but over the last few weeks, we’ve been privy to some legitimate sneak peaks at the show. First, we scored a few photos of the cast. Then, The Carrie Diaries released a sneak peak at the show. I wasn’t sure how an 80s drama would fit into the lineup, but I have less qualms, now.

The Carrie Diaries premieres Monday, January 14 at 8 p.m. ET.
