I am not above shitty, basic cable reality television. I watched every single episode of the first two seasons of Laguna Beach. Then I watched The Hills. And now I'm watching Jersey Shore, but like a lot of people, I never made time for the Whitney Port-spinoff The City. I was just never really invested in her the same way I was L.C. or Kristin or even Lo. She was just kind of there and with the Laguna Beach connection spinning further toward the sixth degree, The City idled just below my radar, which makes today's news not the least bit devastating.

According to Zap2It, Whitney told Ryan Seacrest on his morning radio show that, at least for now, the reality show seems busto with no episode order from MTV and no plans to move to another network. The City's future had been up in the air for months now with MTV neither confirming nor denying its cancellation, but rumor has it, new MTV head Judy McGrath is actively pushing the network away from reality television toward no, not music, scripted television. Yeah, I'm still shaking my head too, regardless of how well Skins does.

Does The City's cancellation mark the official end of the nearly decade old Laguna Beach mania? Maybe, but something tells me Jason Wahler punching that tow truck driver didn't help either.
