Cuba Gooding Jr. Cast In Fox Pilot Guilty

While better known for his big screen roles, including his Oscar winning performance in Jerry Maguire, and various direct-to-DVD movies, Cuba Gooding Jr. may be headed to television. The actor has been cast in the starring role in a Fox legal drama pilot called Guilty.

According to Deadline, this could be Gooding’s first job as a series regular, should things go well for the Marc Guggenheim/Greg Berlanti pilot at Fox. Directed by McG, the pilot stars gooding as William “Billy” Remz, “a brilliant, morally questionable defense attorney who, after being falsely convicted of fraud and stripped of his legal license, uses his unorthodox methods to solve the cases he’s been prohibited from handling … and to exact revenge on those who set him up.”

While this would be Gooding’s first time starring in a TV show, should Guilty receive a series order, it isn’t his first bit of TV work. Prior to hitting it big with Jerry Maguire, the actor appeared in a number of TV shows, including a few episodes of MacGyver. Since then, he’s appeared in various films, including a number of direct-to-DVD movies like Hero Wanted and The Way of War.

Given that Fox isn’t exactly bursting with legal dramas, it’s not entirely easy to picture Guilty on this particular network, but the premise certainly sounds interesting, and may prove to blend a serialized story with a stand-alone element, much like what we’ve seen from shows like Bones and House. We’ll have to wait and see how things go for Guilty.
