Harry Potter may use “Expelliarmus!” for everything, but Daniel Radcliffe really could have used an Impervious Charm in his recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The former Harry Potter star became the latest participant in Fallon’s “Water Wars” game that raised the stakes on one of the most boring card games that could be played on late night television. Each contestant was armed with five glasses of ice cold water, flipping cards and flinging water to win the rights to a water gun. Neither could remain dry while the other had water, and the results were hilarious. Check it out!
Daniel Radcliffe may be no stranger to onscreen duels, but it turns out that he’s just as much of a Muggle as any of the rest of us when it comes to water being dumped on him. Fortunately, Jimmy Fallon is no evil dark lord, and Radcliffe’s loss was just plain funny.
Luckily, Radcliffe didn’t go down without a fight. His soak-or-be-soaked approach to the game saw Fallon having water unhesitatingly flung in his face, whereas Fallon took more of a calculating pouring tack on Radcliffe.
Fallon clearly chose the right contestant to challenge to a game of “Water Wars.” Radcliffe was a very good sport about being doused, and even having a glass of icy water dumped in his lap that would have had most of us wishing for a Time Turner to take us back and stop ourselves from ever playing this silly game was not enough to faze him. Sure, he had a premiere to go to after the taping of The Tonight Show and had not anticipated playing a game that would soak his only pair of underwear, but while sulk in soaked undergarments when he could just enact his own brand of watery revenge? Dumbledore might not have approved, but it sure was entertaining.
Of course, no celebrity should ever go onto The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon not expecting to be sucked into a silly game of sorts. Fallon ranges from takeoffs of real shows a la Pyramid and Family Feud to invented games that don’t make a whole lot of sense but are just plain awesome, like somehow getting Shaquille O’Neal stuck in a phone booth with a handful of other people.
All in all, folks with lesser senses of humor than Daniel Radcliffe might have been wishing for an Unforgivable Curse or two after getting an unexpected lapful of icy water, but the man behind one of the most famous wizards of our time took the rather wet turn of events very well. Since he was probably not raised in a cupboard under some stairs or split his soul into seven, it’s clear enough that Daniel Radcliffe is just a fun guy on his own merit, and Jimmy Fallon had a worthy opponent in his latest game of “Water Wars.”
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on NBC.
