Daniella Pineda Joins Vampire Diaries Spinoff The Originals

Actress Daniella Pineda has not made a big name for herself just yet (although she did have a gig in an episode of Homeland), but that might change very soon thanks to a spinoff series on the CW. Pineda is set to play a witchy woman in The Vampire Diaries spinoff The Originals. If the backdoor pilot goes to series, Pineda has snagged a regular role.

We still have a little while to wait before The Originals becomes a certain reality. The backdoor pilot will air on the network during the April 25 episode of The Vampire Diaries. The project follows a group of vampires, as well as some other supernatural creatures, who live in a special hub in New Orleans. So far, the network has been pretty swift with casting for the new series, partially because several of the leads in the new series have appeared in The Vampire Diaries, including Daniel Gillies, Phoebe Tonkin, and Joseph Morgan.

Pineda isn’t a Vampire Diaries transplant, however. According to Deadline, she’ll appear as a brand new character in the supernatural universe. Pineda will play Sophie, a witch who doesn’t fit into the mold that most of her other magical peers fit into. She’s been cast aside in her coven, but she’s stubborn and a natural-born leader. With those traits in mind, it’s fitting that she’ll be trying to put together a revolution within her community. I'm not sure how this sideplot will relate to the main vampire plot, but it's definitely intriguing.

TV Blend will let you know about any more castings related to The Originals pilot.
