F*** Me Gently With A Chainsaw: They’re Making A Heathers TV Series
The pillaging of the ‘80s continues as Variety brings word that Fox and Sony Pictures TV are developing a TV series based on the 1989 dark comedy, Heathers. The new version will be reworked for modern day, since Christian Slater is so 1989, with Mark Rizzo and Jenny Bicks writing the adaptation.
The original movie, written by Daniel Waters and starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, focused on a girl who becomes part of her high school’s in crowd, a devious trio of girls she hates, all named Heather. The flick has become a cult classic thanks to its pitch-black sense of humor and quotable dialogue such as “Fuck me gently with a chainsaw” and “This isn't just a spoke in my menstrual cycle.” Its source material at least sets it apart from the glut of other modern teen dramas, but I’m extremely skeptical that any of the edginess or bleak humor of the original will survive a modern TV development process.
