FX Confirms Archer Will Get A Third Season

The at-once affably loveable, bumbling and brilliant Archer, along with his cronies Lana Kane and Cyril Figgis, as well as his boss Malory Archer, have been renewed for a third season. According to Deadline, the news came Tuesday, during FX’s upfront party. Network president John Landgraf was responsible for the announcement, also stating Archer: Season 3 will have a 16-episode run.

Oddly, the series will be split up so that the first three episodes will play after It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia in the fall and the episodes following will begin airing in 2012. Since It’s Always Sunny already has a pretty heavy following, though strange, FX seems to have a sound marketing strategy.

FX is working pretty hard to turn itself into a comedic powerhouse. The network is set to release a sixth comedy show in early 2012. So, if It’s Always Sunny can get audiences excited about Archer as FX hopes it will, in turn, Archer will be able to bring in viewers for the new show. With Archer really beginning to hit its stride, this is not a bad prospect, at all.
