Those that are anxiously awaiting the upcoming HBO series Luck are in it - luck that is - because audiences will be getting a first look at the pilot episode a little earlier than expected. In a pretty smart move, considering the inevitable shared audiences between it and their current hit Boardwalk Empire, HBO will air the pilot of the seemingly seedy horse-racing drama after the season finale of the Jersey set gangster series.

The Futon Critic just announced that HBO will be early out of the gate with a special first look a Luck on Sunday, December 11th at 10 p.m. ET following the season finale of Boardwalk Empire. The new series from the #1 name in television, stars Academy Award winner Dustin Hoffman as a recently released convict who is somehow connected (get it?) with the gambling side of the sport. The show will explore all aspects of horse racing, whether the owners and the gamblers sitting in the bleachers or the jockeys and the trainers down on the track.

The specifics of the story are still rather vague but we do know that the pilot is directed by (the amazing) Michael Mann as well as executively produced by him, Carolyn Strauss and David Deadwood Milch. So yeah, all the pieces are in place for a fantastic series and one that I'm sure not going to miss. I mean, you have Mann, Milch, Hoffman and Nick Nolte. If I was a betting man, I'd say this was a horse worth putting your money behind. If you haven't had a chance to check out the tease, here it is in all its intense 48 second glory.

Once again, Luck debuts proper in January 2012 but HBO will air a special screening of the pilot after the Boardwalk Empire finale on Sunday, December 11 at 10 p.m. ET. The new series stars Dustin Hoffman, Nick Nolte. Dennis Farina, John Ortiz, Kevin Dunn, Richard Kind and Kerry Condon. It is from executive producers David Milch, Michael Mann and Carolyn Strauss.
