Amidst the multitude of cancellations on a very busy night for Fox and their infamously over utilized hatchet comes some glimmers of light. The JJ Abrams produced time traveling crime drama Alcatraz has been picked up by the network, and will be putting Lost’s Jorge Garcia back on an island alongside Sam Neill (Jurassic Park). Created by former Lost scribe Liz Sarnoff the new series follows a group of people who disappear from Alcatraz only to re-appear years later. It could definitely be a good companion show for the returning Fringe, which Fox has inexplicably been kind to and in return has rewarded fans with what may be this season’s most mind blowing finale.

Deadline is also reporting that a half-hour comedy titled The New Girl starring Zooey Deschanel as an elementary school teacher who moves in with three guys has been picked up. This means that the Deschanel sister’s will both be on Fox next season. Speaking of Emily, a Bones spinoff has also been greenlit. The Finder follows a military vet who can find things. His first mission is to find a better title for his show.

Also on the approved list is the comedy I Hate My Teenage Daughter starring Jaime Pressly. Unfortunately Fox has apparently passed on Locke & Key.
