Game Of Thrones Casts Rome Actor As Mance Rayder For Season 3

Robb Stark may be King of the North, but the Wall appears to be the northern border to that title. As those who've been watching Game of Thrones already know, north of the Wall is a whole other story, with its own set of characters. And it looks like one more of them has been cast. We've heard about Mance Rayder, and come Season 3, it seems we'll actually be getting to meet him!

In Season 2 of HBO's adaptation of George R.R. Martin's popular fantasy series, Jon Snow got himself captured by the wildlings, and when the season came to a close, Jon was being brought to meet Mance Rayder, the King Beyond the Wall. EW shared the news today that the character will be played by Rome's Ciaran Hinds. As the site notes, Rayder has been referenced but not seen in the series thus far and is known to have united the clans behind the mission to attack the Wall.

It's likely that many will recognize Hinds for playing Caesar in HBO's Rome. More recently, he played Albus Dumbledore's brother Aberforth in the final Harry Potter film, and he can currently be seen on USA in their limited political drama series Political Animals, playing the former U.S. President (and ex-husband to Sigourney Weaver's character) Bud Hammond. Between Political Animals and Rome, it sounds like he has some experience playing leaders.

I'd be curious to know what fans of the book think of the casting. Does he seem like a good fit for the part?
