Max Greenfield's Schmidt on New Girl is quite a character. In fact, he's so memorable in his own amusing, egotistical way that I almost forget the days when he was playing a less likable egomaniac in Ugly Betty, or the adorably charming deputy in Veronica Mars. Come next season, we'll get to meet someone from Schmidt's family, and appropriately, someone very funny has been cast to play the role.

TVLine has reported that Rob Riggle has been cast to guest star in New Girl's upcoming second season, playing the part of Schmidt's cousin, who also goes by Schmidt. As he's family to one of the series lead characters, it's fitting to know he'll be showing up in the Thanksgiving themed episode set to air in November.

Riggle's credits include Saturday Night Live, Human Giant, The Daily Show, Wilfred and NTSF:SD:SUV. He also appeared in the feature comedies 21 Jump Street, The Hangover, Going the Distance and Larry Crowne. And he's a comedian, so needless to say, the man has plenty of experience in comedy.

Riggle is a funny man, so that alone makes this very good casting news, but I love the idea of two Schmidts in New Girl, even if it's only for one episode. Is there a rivalry? Will there be name-confusion? Does this Schmidt work his name into words? That would make for some funny Schmidt for the series' second season.

New Girl returns for Season 2 on Tuesday, September 25.
