With her sunny disposition and retro-fabulous wardrobe, it’s hard to believe that it’s been almost five seasons since we first glimpsed Jessica Day (Zooey Deschanel) on Fox’s New Girl. Well, Season 5 will be upon us very soon, and we finally have our first look at the season.
The trailer, which came to us via TVLine, gives us a pretty good look at the hijinks that will ensue on the new season of everyone’s favorite roommate-based comedy.
Well, it’s no surprise that Jess believes that 2016 will be their year. When has she ever declared anything to be wholly crappy and irredeemable? When has Jess ever not come around to embrace the sunny side of life, even when things get real for her? I’ll tell you when…never. Jessica Day will not play your rainy day games, sir, not even when she should. Our best roomie will never give up on life.
By now, we’ve all heard that Megan Fox will be stepping into our favorite zany apartment, and now we finally get a look at Reagan, a pharmaceutical sales representative who also happens to be currently-engaged Cece’s (Hannah Simone) ex-girlfriend. And the woman is so hot that she scares Nick (Jake Johnson) sweaty, which sounds about right considering Nick’s level of success with women who aren’t Jess. I actually can’t figure out why all the guys haven’t fainted yet.
Also on tap this season? Somebody else with bangs, a perfectly curled brunette coif, bright lipstick and nerdy glasses who will try to keep everyone’s spirits up. Since Jess isn’t exactly “new” to the apartment anymore, having Portlandia star Fred Armisen stand in for her briefly does seem like an appropriately weird way to shake things up. I can imagine a very unlikely scenario will lead us to this insanity. Actually, now that I think about it, he doesn’t look bad here. Though, I must say, the hair suits him better than the lipstick.
Some friendly bonding between Cece and Winston (Lamorne Morris) will be had when she needs to reveal how hideous her current choice in wedding dress is, which I can only assume was chosen by a joyful Schmidt (Max Greenfield), trying his best to be the helpful fiancé. They also look to be enjoying taking wild selfies while making it rain…something that definitely isn’t money.
Jess catching Nick as he hugs Schmidt and Cece while they make out? That’s just par for the course with these wackos. New Girl has always done an excellent job of putting the gang is odd situations, usually those brought on by their own crazy misdeeds, and the new season looks to be no different. Megan Fox has picked a grand old time to guest star on the show.
