The day that Dr. Cox hangs up his cape, I mean coat, for the last time will be a sad day. But John C. McGinley, who plays the sarcastic doc on Scrubs, already has prospects on the horizon. CBS has announced they’ve cast him to co-star in their new drama pilot Back.

McGinley will play opposite star Skeet Ulrich in the show. Back follows the life of Richard, who comes home to find out he’s been missing for eight years following September 11th. McGinley portrays Tom, a firefighter now married to Richard’s ex-wife (Sherry Stringfield). Unfortunately he won’t be referring to Richard by girl’s names, or dolling out heartfelt advice with a biting wit.
