John Cho’s guest starring role in the NBC pilot for Go On has been upgraded to a regular series role now that the show is headed for the fall schedule. Cho closed the deal today to come on board the half-hour comedy, which has Matthew Perry in the lead role, to play Perry’s boss.

The Harold half of Harold and Kumar is set to take on his first regular series gig since the short-lived FlashForward, says Deadline. As the boss to Perry’s character Ryan King, he won’t let the sportscaster get back on the air unless he agrees to go into counseling to deal with the recent death of his wife. The plot of the series surrounds the support group that Perry joins in order to move forward. I’m still having a hard time seeing how this plot makes for a comedy, as it sounds pretty heavy to me – but then messed up people in support groups can be good for a laugh if you take the right angle. I assume it will be filled with quirky characters, and the NBC description of the show shows signs of plenty of Perry’s trademark sarcasm.

As for John Cho, he’s a busy guy with the whole Harold and Kumar franchise, which has an animated series for Adult Swim as the latest installment. He’s also involved in the Star Trek and American Pie franchises as well, which seems to guarantee we’ll keep seeing plenty of him even if Go On doesn’t last. I usually find Cho good for a laugh, so I think he’ll be a strong addition to the show.
