Lifetime Greenlights The Pregnancy Project: TV Movie About A Teen's Fake Pregnancy

It’s stating the obvious that being a pregnant teen would come with a lot of social challenges in high school. This was what Gaby Rodriguez set out to explore when she did her senior project, which had her faking a pregnancy as an experiment. Lifetime has given the green light for a movie to be made about her story.

Last year it was all about The Pregnancy Pact, this year, according to Deadline, Lifetime is interested in the girl who only pretended to get pregnant as an experiment for her senior project. The Pregnancy Project was written by Teena Booth, who is also credited for co-writing The Pregnancy Pact, and will star Alexa Vega (Spy Kids) as Gaby Rodriguez, a girl who fakes a pregnancy, “in an effort to explore conventional stereotypes and the treatment of pregnant teens for a senior year school project.”

I can only imagine what it’s like for a 17-year-old girl to be pregnant for senior year. It’s admirable what Rodriguez did in participating in the experiment, especially considering it likely meant a big change for her senior year, all for the sake of understanding an issue a lot of girls have had to deal with. It’ll be interesting to see how Lifetime tells the story.
