The Mindy Project Preview: Watch The Trailer For Mindy Kaling's New Fox Comedy

Fittingly paired with New Girl on Tuesday nights on Fox's primetime 2012-2013 schedule is Mindy Kaling's comedy The Mindy Project. Following a bit of girlish banter with New Girl star Zooey Deschanel, Mindy Kaling helped introduce the trailer for her new comedy series at the Fox Upfronts today. Check it out ahead!

Created by and starring Kaling, The Mindy Project has Kaling playing the title role, a doctor who's looking to get her life in order both professionally and personally. Below the cast photo, you'll find Fox's official synopsis for the series, which premieres this fall, and further down, the trailer that introduces us to Kaling's character Mindy.

Created by Emmy-nominated writer/producer and New York Times best-selling author Mindy Kaling (“The Office”) and starring Kaling, Chris Messina (“Damages”), Anna Camp (“The Good Wife”) and newcomer Ed Weeks, THE MINDY PROJECT features Kaling as a skilled OB/GYN navigating the tricky waters of both her personal and professional life, as she pursues her dreams of becoming the perfect woman, finding the perfect man and getting her perfect romantic comedy ending.

In addition to giving us an introduction to Mindy, you may also catch guest stars Ed Helms and Bill Hader, both of whom appear to play people involved in Kaling's romantic life (one in the past tense, the other in the present-tense).

Much like New Girl, it looks like The Mindy Project focuses on a young woman who's humorously imperfect but looking to improve her life. As disappointing as it is to picture The Office without Kelly around offering pop-culture references and obsessing about her appearance or her love life, I'll be interested to see how Kaling does as the star of her own series. Hopefully The Mindy Project will see as much success as its potential big-sister-series New Girl.

Kelly West
Assistant Managing Editor

Kelly put her life-long love of movies, TV and books to greater use when she joined CinemaBlend as a freelance TV news writer in 2006, and went on to serve as the site’s TV Editor before joining the staff full-time in 2011 and moving over to other roles at the site. At present, she’s an Assistant Managing Editor who spends much of her time brainstorming and editing features, analyzing site data, working with writers and editors on content planning and the workflow, and (of course) continuing to obsess over the best movies and TV shows (those that already exist, and the many on the way). She graduated from SUNY Cortland with BA in Communication Studies and a minor in Cinema Studies. When she isn't working, she's probably thinking about work, or reading (or listening to a book), and making sure her cats are living their absolute best feline lives.
