If you’re currently finding yourself falling in love with any of the new TV series that began airing a week or two ago and you’re anything like me, you’re probably waiting for the axe to fall. Call it pessimism if you will, but in this day and age when new shows are cancelled fairly quickly, there’s no shame in preparing for the worst. For a handful of this fall’s new series, the future is still uncertain but their respective networks have decided to give them a few more weeks.
E! Online’s Kristin Dos Santos reported that her sources tell her that NBC’s Life, Chuck, Bionic Woman and Journeyman have all been picked up for additional scripts. CBS has done the same with its new series, Cane. If this is true, it’s good news because it means the networks aren’t ready to cancel them. The bad news is that none of them have been officially picked up for a full season (yet), so their fate still hangs in the balance.
Last week, ABC’s Private Practice and the premiere of Pushing Daisies were the only two new shows to break the top 20 in the ratings. Other than that, there haven’t really been any front-runners in the new-shows department. The next few weeks will most likely prove to be crucial for these series’ survival. Personally, I’m loving Chuck and finding that Bionic Woman and Journeyman have gotten even better with each new episode. If Life moved to Tuesdays I’d probably watch it. Cane seemed decent but just didn’t hold my interest.
Readers, I implore you – stop watching Private Practice and give Bionic Woman a chance! I know - you’re a fan of Grey’s Anatomy and you just have to see if Addison’s going to hook up with McAcupuncture-guy but perhaps you can give broken hoo-ha’s and coveted sperm a break next week and check out Bionic Woman instead. I’m a big fan of Grey’s Anatomy but when it comes to Wednesday nights at 9:00 p.m., I have to put quality writing above character loyalty. Plus, I just cant stomach watching the writers destroy what was left of Addison’s character in this mess of a spin-off.
Bionic Woman really does have more to offer than just a hot chick with robot parts. When you look past all of the amazing fight-sequences and cool special effects, you’ll see that there’s actually a pretty good story being told here.
