The Office's Melora Hardin Signs On For TBS Comedy Do It Yourself

With Wedding Band cancelled, Melora Hardin is available to pursue other projects, and based on this recent bit of casting news, the actress, who may be best known for her portrayal of Jan in The Office, hasn't gone far in finding her next role. Hardin has been cast in a TBS comedy pilot Do It Yourself, which would keep her at TBS following Wedding Band's short run, should the comedy go to series.
Deadline says Hardin has signed on for workplace single-camera comedy Do It Yourself, which is written by Walt Becker and Rob Long, and will be directed by James Widdoes. The comedy follows 20-something Nick, a math teacher who gets laid off and ends up taking a job at a bog box home supply store. He soon rises up as the de factor leader of the misfit coworkers, while redefining what it means to be a teacher in the process.
Hardin will play Kate, Nick's boss. She's described as paranoid, irrational and drunk on power, which sounds like a funny fit for Hardin, when we consider some of her past roles. In addition to playing wedding planner Roxie Rutherford in TBS' Wedding Band, Hardin played the recurring role of Jan Levinson in The Office. Her character in the NBC comedy evolved from being Michael Scott's often irritated and uptight boss to his irrational and occasionally unstable significant other. At both ends of the spectrum, Hardin was very funny. It's great to hear she's already found a new role since Wedding Band's cancellation. Hopefully things will work out for Do It Yourself so we can continue to see Hardin on the small screen.
