Most people wouldn't say that Sarah Michelle Gellar was the absolute best thing about Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but still, fans of that show have good reason to be excited today. According to Vulture Gellar is planning to return to a starring role on television for the first time since 2003, in the CBS thriller pilot Ringer that will star Gellar as both a young woman on the run from the mob and her twin sister who has put a price on her head. Not quite as bad as a Hellmouth under your hometown, but close!

Two writers from another well-loved genre CW series, Supernatural's Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder, created the show. Gellar will be a co-executive producer, which makes sense given her ongoing clout despite having not had a significant movie hit since Buffy ended. And these days, with so many actresses finding substantial career success on television after their movie options withered, it's not even a shame for Gellar to go back to TV. It might be a little foolish for Buffy fans to hope this will be as good as that series-- it was kind of a one-of-a-kind thing-- but Gellar fans are at least likely to be seeing a lot more of her in the coming year. It all depends on if CBS actually picks up the pilot which we'll know later this year as they put together their fall schedules.
