Shohreh Aghdashloo Joins Fox's New Drama Mob Doctor

Fox’s new medical thriller The Mob Doctor has added a 24 alum to the cast. Shohreh Aghdashloo is on board the new drama in a recurring role as a cardiothoracic surgeon who has earned her stripes and become a legend in her field.

Aghdashloo appeared in the fourth season of 24 and has also done some work on other medical dramas including ER and House. EW says the Emmy winner be returning to Fox to play Dr. Jayana Baylor in Mob Doctor. The new series stars Jordana Spiro as a young surgeon with a promising career ahead of her who gets mixed up with the mob. To pay off her brother’s debts, she starts moonlighting as a doctor to the mafia. From the description, it sounds like Dr. Baylor may be something of an inspiration to Spiro’s character. Baylor is described as a tough doctor who has made her way and a name for herself in a very male-dominated field. She’s a no-nonsense woman who is compassionate but tough, beautiful, and witty.

Mob Doctor is set to premiere on September 17th, and will fill the medical drama hole left by the long-running House, which took its final bow at the end of this past season. Whether or not it can live up to the popularity of House is yet to be seen. I am still struggling with the concept for this show, but it does seem to have some strong casting that could help it rise above, as long as the writing is equally strong.
