TV Recap: HIMYM - Right Place Right Time

Did you know the reason guys are supposed to wait three days to call after meeting a girl is because of Jesus? Oh yeah. Barney explained the whole thing on this week’s episode of How I Met Your Mother. See, Jesus rose on the third day. The first day would have been too soon because some people might not even believe he was dead. The second day was a Saturday so people would be too busy to notice. On Sunday, though, people were already at church and he could just walk in to show he had risen. Yup. If you’re mad because that guy hasn’t called, blame Jesus. Of course, if you meet Ted, you’ll never have to worry about that.

Ted meets Holli at the bar and immediately after he wants to call her. She seems like a cool girl and Ted seems to really like her so Marshall and Barney bet him he can’t wait the three days to call her. Ted agrees but as soon as he’s home, he texts her it was nice to meet her. Oh yeah, and he actually used the words “texty text.” Clearly, he has some issues with this stuff. But, to his amazement, she writes back. They text for hours and everything is perfect. She even claims to be reading architecture magazines while wearing her old cheerleading uniform. Exactly. Robin says she’s lying to try and get Ted but even still, what woman says that’s what she’s doing?

As it turns out, no woman. While Ted was in the bathroom at the bar, Marshall and Barney swiped his phone and changed Holli’s number to Barney’s work cell. Ted had been texting Barney and Marshall the whole time. At first, they were just going to do something funny, then it got weird when Ted got all flirty, too. But then, it was funny again. Finally, they decided to get Ted to say I love you so he wouldn’t say it when they let him call the real Holli. One small problem, he never said it.

He did tell Robin he thought he was falling for her but then Robin couldn’t keep the truth in anymore. She had discovered it the night before. Now the jig’s up, right? Of course not, silly. Ted decides to play back. He decides to tell the boys something they never wanted to know….he recently had a gay sex dream about his best friend. Instead of being freaked out, the boys predictably fight over who is the best friend. Before you get any ideas, Ted made it up.

They all meet up at the bar and Ted tells them a really long, boring story about the dream had the night before. He was at dinner with a bunch of architects and there was no sex involved anywhere. I told you it was boring. Then, when he was going to start talking about the other dream, Holli walked in. Ted remembered where she worked and paid her a visit. She wasn’t unhappy with him breaking the three day rule at all. In fact, she was there to go on a date with Ted. Oh silly boys, they’re all so easily deceived.

I guess the three day rule doesn’t really matter. Except with some people because on Ted’s date, Holli made all the classic Ted mistakes of moving too fast: She made a joke about getting married to him, she planned a far away trip for them together, and she broke out with, “I love you.” So maybe it’s not so bad to wait those three days. Although, future Ted did tell his children he didn’t heed that advice when he met their mother. He called her right away. Now, if only we had even an option to guess who it is.
