While a lot of the Game of Thrones cast members have been busy denying they know what happens to the now-infamous Jon Snow, Maisie Williams recently tried a different tactic in an interview, teasing a “great twist” that is going to happen when HBO’s hit fantasy drama returns to the schedule. Here’s what Williams has to say about Jon Snow in Game of Thrones Season 6.
I feel so mean because I speak to people and they’re all like ‘Jon Snow, is he back?’ and it’s like really heartbreaking because people are like ‘yeah, but he’s coming back though?’ It’s a great twist but I can’t say he’s going to be alive.
Williams also mentions to The Upcoming that production is currently wrapping up and that she's read the scripts for Season 6, so she knows exactly what is going to happen, although she somewhat manages to be teasy in her description.
HBO and pretty much anyone near and dear to the series have all been pretty adamant that Jon Snow did indeed die on Game of Thrones. However, reports over the past few months have shown that Kit Harington has been active on the set of the HBO drama, not to mention he’s still sporting the haircut that he’s had for a long time on the series (which he isn’t fond of). Set spoilers indicate he has even filmed a big scene with Sansa Stark. Hell, HBO even included the character on its very first Season 6 poster, so it’s safe to say that Kit Harington will be back in some manner or another—whether or not Jon Snow is dead.
We’re going to get into weird fan theories in this paragraph, so if you want to go into Season 6 potentially unspoiled, now is a great time to bail on this article. It’s entirely possible that Kit Harington’s character could be resurrected by Melisandre, who abandoned Stannis in his time of need after realizing Jon Snow may have been the individual she was actually seeking. The Night’s Watch Commander could theoretically end up coming back as Azor Ahai, a key figure in Melisandre’s religion. In that case, Jon Snow could be dead, but Kit Harington could still be on the show. As far as theories go, this one’s not particularly outrageous.
Maisie Williams’ comments also indicate that a major twist such as the one theoretically outlined above will be happening. Plus, even if we’re off, the likelihood is that Kit Harington will be on our screens during Game of Thrones Season 6.
Luckily, we don’t have too much longer to wait to find out. Game of Thrones is set to return to the schedule on Sunday, April 24 at 9 p.m. ET. If you’d like to know a whole lot more about the upcoming season, you can check out everything we know about the new episodes.
