Celebrity deaths have a way of breaking the internet, as fans and loved ones collectively mourn. The Cosby Show star Malcolm-Jamal Warner's death is definitely that category, and details about his drowning are still trickling out. The latest report offers more context about what happened, and revealed that a surfer managed to save the late actor's daughter in the midst of the chaos. Let's break it all down.

Tributes for Warner have been rolling in, as those who knew the late actor were left shocked by his drowning. A new report by ABC7 revealed that after he and his daughter were struggling in the water due to a rip current, a surfer was able to use his board to help save the 8 year-old girl. Unfortunately, they weren't able to save the 54 year-old actor in time.

Two surfers reportedly saw Malcolm-Jamal Warner and his daughter struggling in the water, and dove into the water to help the pair. While a volunteer lifeguard eventually pulled him out of the water (and was given 45 minutes of CPR), he tragically wasn't saved.

Warner's autopsy offered his cause of death, which was officially accidental "asphyxiation by submersion." It's truly a harrowing story, especially because his daughter was involved in the incident. Luckily those surfers intervened, and she was able to be saved.

This disturbing story might sound a bit familiar, as it has some similarities to Naya Rivera's death in 2020. The Glee actress also died from accidental drowning, and reportedly helped to save her son from the water before ultimately passing. While both of these incidents are genuinely terrifying, the fact that the kids survived offers a silver lining to the tragedies.

While Malcolm-Jamal Warner was best known for The Cosby Show, fans have been re-watching his other projects and appreciating his talents in the days since his death. That includes roles in 9-1-1, American Crime Story, and Suits. He's rumored to have one more posthumous role, but we'll have to see whether or not this is legit. If so, smart money says plenty of his fans and friends will tune in to see one more performance from the Emmy-nominated actor.

Ever since news of Warner's death was revealed, the public has been following along for each new update, while also reflecting on the late actor's long an successful career in TV and film. Tributes have been rolling in from many well-known celebrities that he worked with over the years, including Angela Bassett, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Sherri Shepherd. Even Bill Cosby himself offered a reaction, despite the controversies surrounding the 88 year-old comedian.

Our thoughts are with Malcolm-Jamal Warner's loved ones during this difficult time. CinemaBlend will continue offering updates about the ongoing situation as they roll in.
