The Coens Get Serious (Man) On DVD This February image
If the career of the Coen Brothers has been a continuous oscillation between the sublime and the ridiculous, their latest film, A Serious Man, seems to fall more in the former category than the latter. While it may not have generated much buzz outside of critics' circles, that buzz has been mostly positive. Not every film can penetrate the cultural consciousness to the same degree as, say, No Country for Old Men, after all. For many folks, myself included, our first chance to check out A Serious Man will be on DVD, and fortunately Universal Studios Home Entertainment will be bringing it to both Blu-ray and DVD February 9th.

The serious man in question is Physics professor Larry Gopnik (Michael Stuhlbarg), beset on all sides by problems. His wife is leaving him for his best friend, his unemployed brother is crashing on his couch and in trouble with the law, and even his career is in peril. Trying to find some answers, he consults three different rabbis, but the truths they offer only lead to more questions. Our own Katey Rich gave the film four and a half stars and called it "an odd little gem." Find out for yourself just how well this gem shines this February.

The Blu-ray and DVD will sport three featurettes: "Becoming Serious," "Creating 1967," and "Hebrew and Yiddish for Goys."
