Xbox Live's Free Games With Gold For July Announced

Microsoft is expanding Xbox Live's Games with Gold program. Starting this month, they'll be giving Xbox One owners two new games per month instead of one.

Here's what they're giving away on each console in July: Xbox One

  • Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag ($29.99 ERP): Available from July 1-31
  • So Many Me ($14.99 ERP): Available from July 16-August 15

Xbox 360

  • Plants vs. Zombies ($14.99 ERP): Available from July 1-15
  • Gears of War 3 ($19.99 ERP): Available from July 16-31 on Xbox 360

Assassin's Creed 4 is set during the Golden Age of Piracy. The player is Edward Kenway, the captain of the Jackdaw. They must command their ship in battles against the Templars and other pirates. They'll also stalk enemies in villages and jungles throughout the Caribbean. It's a much better game than AC3 or Revelations so if you're a fan of the series, I'd recommend checking it out.

So Many Me, meanwhile, is a brand new puzzle platform. The hero is Filo, a green blob accompanied by several clones. He can use these clones' special abilities to traverse the game's many obstacles. For example, he can turn a clone into a stone block so he can be used as a stepping stone.

You probably own Plants vs. Zombies by now on your phone or some other device. However, if you don't, here's how it works: you must defend your house from zombies using your garden. You collect sunlight and use it to summon plants with differing abilities. You have to find the right combination of plants to counter the zombies' own special abilities and kill them.

Gears of War 3, a cover-based shooter, completes the story of soldier Marcus Fenix. Mankind is now being attacked by a mysterious new foe called the Lambent. Fenix and his squad embark on a desperate mission to take out the Lambent as well as their old foes, the Locust Horde. The campaign can be played with up to three friends online. The multiplayer also includes a new Beast mode, in which players control Locust characters trying to take out COG soldiers.

As usual, Xbox 360 owners can add Xbox One freebies to their account even if they don't own the newer console yet. They'll be able to then download them once they buy an Xbox One.
