DayZ Helps Arma 2 Make Steam's Top 10 Four Weeks In A Row

A mod from a small team called DayZ has now become a phenomenon. It turns Arma II, a very realistic military shooting simulator from Bohemia Interactive and 505 Games, into an open-world survival-horror MMO experience. The world is persistent, characters are persistent and death is permanent.

The mod's popularity has spread like wildfire, with hundreds of thousands of people now picking up a copy of Arma II to experience life in DayZ for themselves, and this has effectively put and kept Arma II on Steam's Top 10 charts for four weeks in a row. Very impressive.

Blues has been keeping track of Valve's weekly outing of the charts and each and every week since May 13th, Arma II has been topping the charts. On May 20th the game actually managed to move into the number one spot on the top 10 list, since then the game has steadily managed the number two spot on the top 10 list, as of the June 3rd numbers for Steam's top 10 most sold games of the week.

Now here's the real shocker...Arma II is not on sale. That's right, the game is still available at the standard $19.99 price tag along with all the expansion packs. People don't care, though, they just want to experience the intensity that comes along with this much talked about mod.

As for the mod itself there is 225km of open space to explore and random encounters with people to experience. YouTube channels have been exploding with views as YouTubers walk gamers through the life of playing DayZ in realtime, the ups and downs of fending oneself off from zombies as well as dealing with the treacheries of other human beings just trying to survive.

DayZ has best been described as a playable simulator of the AMC TV show The Walking Dead. You have to eat, drink, watch your temperature and avoid getting sick or catching infections. It's survival horror with a real focus on survival.

I've been completely enthralled with the way the mod works. The YouTube video series of various individuals playing through the game and sharing their experiences has been interesting and entertaining to say the least.

If you want to partake in some horror survival goodness, and none of that goofy, campy B-movie stuff that we've been tossed over the years, DayZ is the way to go.
