Techland’s Chrome Engine 5 is being put to good use with the upcoming open-world, horror-survival zombie game, Dead Island and Deep Silver is set to publish the game, which is slated for release this year across multiple platforms.

As stated in the press release…
Deep Silver announced today that it will publish Dead Island, the upcoming gruesome zombie slasher by renowned developer Techland. Dead Island combines first-person action with a heavy focus on melee combat, character development and customization of a vast array of weapons.

The entire game is set around a very dark story campaign that allows players to evolve and customize one of the unique character classes to their liking, as the game unfolds.

The real catch for Dead Island is that much like Dead Rising 2, Dead Island will utilize makeshift weapon customization so players can gather up items and churn out some deadly homemade combinations to fend off hordes of zombies. Now that sounds fun.

Dead Island is due out in late 2011 for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. For more info feel free to visit the Official Website.
