Bethesda's E3 press conference may include an announcement of Dishonored 2. They seem to have accidentally revealed the action-stealth sequel when they broadcast part of their rehearsal over Twitch.

The recorded portion of the rehearsal is pretty dry. It's a few people rehearsing an announcement. While they don't mention any specific game, it's the identities of these speakers that rang some alarm bells. One is Harvey Smith, co-director of the first Dishonored. The other is Raphael Colantonio, the other director on Dishonored who also serves as CEO of Arkane Studios.

I suppose you could make the case that Bethesda did this leak on purpose to build up hype for their press conference tonight. Still, their response after the hot mic incident seemed less than polished. Here's what they said in the chatroom for their Twitch channel:
Some believe that Arkane's actually going to announce Prey 2, the long-delayed game now reportedly in development at Arkane Austin. However, Smith's presence at the rehearsal makes Dishonored 2 seem like a better bet. He works at the Lyon office where Dishonored 2 is allegedly in development.

Bethesda has been clear in the past that they view Dishonored as a franchise thanks to its surprisingly good sales.

"I can tell you that Dishonored is far exceeding our sales expectations, which is especially cool considering it’s new IP facing a host of well-established franchises this quarter," said Bethesda PR man Pete Hines back in 2012. "We did terrific numbers again this past weekend, both in stores and on Steam, where Dishonored was listed as the #1 selling title over the holiday weekend. And Dishonored has really sold well overseas."

"So, we’re very pleased and appreciate all the fans that have supported Dishonored and Arkane. We clearly have a new franchise."

It's unclear, though, whether we'll get a sequel or a less obvious successor. Harvey Smith was noncommittal in a interview from three years back.

"Part of me would love to see future games leverage this world and part of me would love it if the vault door was just closed and that's it," Smith said. "This is your one view into the Empire of the Isles and into the city of Dunwall."

Bethesda's E3 press conference will be held at 7 PM Pacific tonight. While we're still not sure if Dishonored 2 will make an appearance, we do know that Fallout 4 and the next Doom will make appearances.
