A fan-made trailer for Slightly Mad Studios' upcoming community-based simulation racing game, Project CARS gives gamers at large a beautiful display of some amazing racing machines in action. The trailer is such a wondrous display of in-game action that it makes a lot of other big budget games look like Mickey Rourke's face by comparison (and not the young, beautiful Mickey Rourke...I'm talking about the transformed one).
Project CARS sports a wide range of sports cars and highly tuned road ravagers that enable players to live the dream, traveling great distances across gorgeously modeled laser-scanned tracks from around the world. Check it out in action below, courtesy of Vimeo user Halycon[via DSO Gaming]. Keep in mind that what you just watched wasn't put together by a group of marketing executives. It wasn't compiled by a focus group to appeal to a “broad audience”. This wasn't the design of some third-party group paid to make the game look “pretty”. This was a bunch of gamers giving their input, helping with some design aspects and playing the living daylights out of the game who decided to put together a trailer of the pre-alpha version of the game. I am impressed. It's such a shame that so few companies have enough faith in their product to let gamers advertize it for them. In fact, after DayZ, MineCraft, Project CARS and about a dozen one other indie games that have seemingly become popular thanks to word of mouth, Let's Play sessions and community promotion, it's hard for me to get as excited about mainstream games that rely on the tried and true corporate marketing techniques to sell their game because now in the back of my mind I'm always thinking, “What do you have to hide that your generic multiplayer FPS has to be promoted by a third-party marketing group and not by the players?” You can look for Project CARS to launch for the Xbox 360, PS3, PC and Wii U.
