Sleeping Dogs Video Parodies Shenmue

Shenmue is probably one of the most beloved franchises from Sega next to Sonic, one of the reasons is because it had this super-simplified, over-arching story that required three games to complete. Another reason it's such a lauded brand is because that super-simplified story never finished itself since a third game was never released due to poor sales of the first two games. Gamers who still have fond memories of the $100 million dollar incomplete trilogy and want to rekindle a bit of those feelings, need to look no further than United Front Games' recent release of Sleeping Dogs, which parodies Shenmue II.
The cool chase sequences, the bad voice acting, the wooden animations, the awkward conversations, all of that doesn't quite make an appearance in the Sleeping Dogs video the same way it did in Shenmue but it's still pretty cool having the action cues pop up on screen, Ryo's bad voice acting used in the clips and similar editing to Sega's expensive but ultimately failed masterpiece thanks to YouTube user DimphonyHD.
That was pretty cool. You know what's the best part about it? That Sleeping Dogs actually lets you do a lot of what Shenmue let you do way, way, way back when the Dreamcast didn't frighten publishers because you could play pirated games on the console without a mod chip.
The only thing Sleeping Dogs is missing is having to waste time paying your rent and moving boxes around to earn a day's wage...instead you can just beat the living crap out of someone and steal their car. I think that works a lot better.
Shenmue 1 & 2 is available right now if you still have a Dreamcast or the original power-station sized Xbox. A Shenmure HD Collection is supposed to be on the way soon for the current-gen consoles. Alternatively, Sleeping Dogs is available right now and a lot of people are having a heck of a lot of fun with it on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
