As we predicted when we reported the story in the first place, yet another British newspaper has faked yet another big celebrity casting item to get readers. I’m all for running rumors, but it would be nice if they’d at least let their readers know when they’re running rumors. The news item run by The Sun over the weekend, in which they claimed Russell Crowe would co-star in Guy Ritchie’s new Sherlock Holmes movie, has already been proven completely false.

The folks over at Empire caught Guy Ritchie at the premiere of his new movie RocknRolla and asked him what was up with Sherlock. Ritchie said, “I don’t have a Watson,” and then went on to definitively add, “Somebody just told me that I have Russell Crowe lined up but that’s news to me. I suspect that hasn’t happened and I’m still looking for my Watson.” And I suspect that if anyone would know, he would.

It does however sound like he will have someone cast as Watson very soon. They’re set to start filming in a month.
