When you're enjoying a run of the mill acid trip, Jack Black is usually part of the proceedings. Right? OK, maybe not for all of us, but apparently Milk director Gus van Sant is imagining Jack Black at the center of the psychedelics in The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, the adaptation of Tom Wolfe's novel that he plans to direct.
Van Sant told MTV Movies Blog that Heath Ledger had actually been the main contender for the lead role, but now "“There’s the opportunity that it could be Jack Black." The movie is still in the early stages, with Milk scripter Dustin Lance Black working on a screenplay at the moment. Van Sant explained, "I haven’t seen the first draft yet. I hope he cracks it. There are many ways to crack it.”
The story obviously has plenty of room for comedy, being that it's about a band of hippies who are stoned out of their minds the entire time, But it is this something we're ready to see Black be a part of? He's stretched his drama muscles in the past, sure, but this is a project that demands a deft actor at the center-- and I'm just not sure Black is that guy.
Head to MTV for more about the project and Van Sant's plans.
