Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackhoff Signs Up For Terror In Oculus
"Mirror mirror on the wall, why did you murder my parents?" That's the strange question at the center of the upcoming supernatural horror movie from Intrepid Pictures titled Oculus. Inspired by writing team Mike Flanagan and Jeff Seidman's award-winning short Oculus: Chapter 3 – The Man with the Plan, this creepy feature centers on a woman trying to prove it wasn't her beloved brother who slaughtered her loving parents a decade ago; it was a haunted mirror dead-set on destroying their family. (Sidebar: if there were an Investigation Discovery series about people trying to vindicate their loved ones by proving ghosts killed their supposed victims, I would watch the shit out of that.)
Scottish ingénue Karen Gillan of Doctor Who fame will front the feature as the devoted sister seeking to exonerate her brother, and Deadline reports that another sci-fi TV star has just signed on. Katee Sackhoff of Battlestar Galatica will be Marie, the ill-fated mother to Karen's supernatural-seeking orphan. Flanagan will helm.
While this sounds like a meager supporting role at best, Sackhoff has plenty of projects due to hit in the coming year. She recently wrapped on the horror-thriller The Haunting in Georgia, which will be the directorial debut of The Haunting in Connecticut editor Tom Elkins, as well as the sci-fi comedy Sexy Evil Genius. But Battlestar Galatica devotees will be most excited to see her team up with Vin Diesel and Karl Urban for David Twohy's presently untitled Chronicles of Riddick sequel, which will presumably be stacked with action sequences and is due out in 2013.
There's no word yet on when Oculus might go into production.
