It was less than a month go that we first heard Dancing with the Stars regular Julianne Hough was trying out for a role in Footloose. She got it.

Variety reports that Hough, a dancer who moonlights as a country music singer, will appear opposite Chace Crawford in Paramount’s remake of the semi-classic Kevin Bacon’s gotta dance movie.

So alright, they hired a dancer for a movie about dancing, that makes sense right? Not so fast. Originally word was that they were auditioning her because of an interest in her singing ability. See, High School Musical is really popular right now so it’s not enough to make a movie just about dancing. The remake will skew a little more American Idol and probably include full blown musical numbers in addition to the forbidden dancing done by Kevin Bacon’s white-sneakered rebel in the first movie.

Not that it matters. There is no movie without John Lithgow as the town’s angry, dance-hating preacher. Lithgow is watching you Julianne, and he is not at all pleased by your obscene rock and roll music, with its gospel of easy sexuality and relaxed morality.
