Hunger Games Flash Ads Show Off Capitol Cosmetics And Grooming Items
If you’ve read Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games series, or have glimpsed some of the Capitol residents in the trailer in their outlandish costumes and make-up, then you know that height of fashion among the Capitol elite seems to be elaborate hair styles and colors, and colorful make-up, which is worn by men and women alike. Color is glamour, and that adds a nice bit of contrast between the wealthy Capitol and the struggling, working-class districts. This line is drawn nicely in the books and based on what we’ve seen so far, it looks like it will come through just as well in the film.
Some cool looking flash ads have made their way online (via HungerGamesTrilogy.Net) and all three of them feature characters from the film in ads that showcase personal grooming items. The first has Cinna (Lenny Kravitz) showing off Liquid Skyliner, the “Official eyeliner of the 74th Hunger Games.” As Cinna’s a stylist, he knows a little something about how to make the eyes pop, and a line of gold certainly does the trick here... Next up, we have Head Gamemaker Seneca Crane (Wes Bentley), whose ad demonstrates how to turn a regular beard into an elaborate design with the Cutting Edge beard and mustache trimmer. It’s just what you’ll need to “up your game”! Finally, as an interviewer, Caesar Flickerman (Stanley Tucci) needs to have a perfect smile, and that he does thanks to “Smile Away!” Doesn’t his smile just Dazzle-Dazzle-Dazzle? They’re shiny and I love the 3D sort of effect going on in the background of them (especially the bubbles in the Cinna one). Beyond the shiny factor, am I alone in feeling a sort of eery vibe from them? I don’t know if it’s the over-glitz or their facial expressions but there’s something in these ads that seems to reflect the harsh, coldness of the Capitol. The Hunger Games arrives in theaters on March 23rd. More information on the film can be found in our Blend Film Database. |
