Johnny Depp Prepares To Take Over The World In Newest Transcendence Trailer
It's been a few weeks since we got a look at Johnny Depp's upcoming sci-fi thriller Transcendence, the first trailer for the movie arriving right before the start of the new year in late December, but that streak has ended with the release of the latest theatrical spot for the film, posted over on the movie's official YouTube page. While it's almost the exact same length as the last preview, it delves much deeper into the details of the plot.
Directed by Wally Pfister and based on a script written by Jack Paglen, the film stars Depp as Dr. Will Caster, one of the world's leading researches in the study of Artificial Intelligence. It is his dream to create a computer that is able to achieve what is known as the singularity: the moment where a piece of technology attains the ability to learn, operate and evolve without a human user. What Will doesn't realize is that he is going to be a more crucial part of this research then he could ever have possibly imagined. After being targeted by an anti-technology extremist faction, Will ends up shot and barely clinging to life. With no other option available to save his life, Will's wife, Evelyn (Rebecca Hall) and best friend, Max (Paul Bettany) make the decision to have Will "transcend" his human form and be uploaded into a computer. Things start to go horribly wrong, however, when Will's thirst for more and more knowledge begins to make him a danger to the world, and Evelyn and Max are forced to try and find some way to shut him down.
The supporting cast for the film is absolutely outstanding, with Pfister taking full advantage of his Christopher Nolan connections and bringing both Morgan Freeman and Cillian Murphy aboard in addition to Kate Mara and Clifton Collins Jr., but what really gets me excited about Transcendence is its cinematography potential. While the movie is Pfister's directorial debut, he has already proven time and time again that he has an amazing cinematic eye. Just watch the trailers below and you can really get a taste of what he's capable of:
This new movie should give him plenty of opportunities to further stretch his skills, and I look forward to seeing what he can do with the responsibilities of a full feature in his hands.
Transcendence arrives in theaters on April 17th, and you can scope out the film's new poster below. What did you think of the new trailer?
