We've learned of the Curse of the Black Pearl, searched for the Dead Man's Chest, headed to the World's End, and sailed on Stranger Tides, and in 2015 we will learn that Dead Men Tell No Tales.
For as long as the fourth sequel in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has been in development we've been forced to call it by its blaise temporary title Pirates of the Caribbean 5, but that time has come to an end. In an interview with ThisIsInfamous,com, directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg have revealed that the title of the next installment in the Disney franchise will be titled Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
While it's certainly a cool title and one that links back to the Disneyland theme park attraction that inspired the franchise (where the phrase is spoken by a talking skull and crossbones), sadly it doesn't really tell us much about what the film is about. The expression is a fairly dark one - basically meaning that a dead person isn't capable of spreading around closely guarded secrets - but what does that mean for Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow? Perhaps he's picked up some information that he's not supposed to know? Or maybe he's on the hunt for someone who knows too much about him...
The title certainly brings up a lot of questions, but it may be a while before we actually get any answers. The script is being written by Jeff Nathanson, whose previous credits include Tower Heist, The Terminal and Speed 2: Cruise Control, but production on the movie isn't scheduled to start up until next year, with Disney targeting a July 10, 2015 release date. What's more, we don't even know which actors will be returning for more Pirates action other than Depp. We can probably count Kiera Knightley and Orlando Bloom out, but there's a good chance we will get to see Geoffrey Rush's Captain Barbossa and Kevin McNally's Joshamee Gibbs once again, considering they're the only two actors other than Depp who have appeared in all of the movies thus far.
The Pirates of the Caribbean sequels thus far haven't exactly done a great job of living up to the original film, but with any luck Rønning and Sandberg will be able to turn that ship around (pun intended). Their last film, the action-adventure flick Kon-Tiki, earned a great deal of praise when it was released earlier this year, and hopefully they can provide the franchise with the spark it so desperately needs.
