Anyone who has ever caught an episode of Mad Men and has even the most basic experience with comics has had the following thought: "Jon Hamm would make a damn fine Superman." It truly is an example of perfect casting. He has the chin, the hair, the chest and the presence. The only thing really holding him back is his age. At 39, he is 12 years older than Brandon Routh when he took the role back in 2006 and 13 years older than Christopher Reeve when he first threw on the cape back in 1978. That doesn't mean the rumors aren't going to persist.

TMT has gotten info from "sources" that Hamm is being heavily considered for the next Superman project, which is being written by David S. Goyer and produced by Christopher Nolan. The site does cover itself by saying that Hamm has not yet met with representatives from Warner Bros., nor has a deal been extended to him. Hamm spoke about the role with MTV back in February, and while he didn't dismiss the notion entirely, he sees a distinctive challenge in the role.
"It's a tricky road to go down with some of those heroes, because they're not flawed. Superman is Superman he's invincible, so where's the drama?"

There are many rumors that I gleefully shut down on this site with hopes to never hear from them again. While I heavily doubt this story is true, I truly hope that it is. What makes it a far-fetched notion is that the script would have to have an older Superman in mind in order to work. There is, of course, the possibility that Goyer could do a rewrite with Hamm in mind, but I'm not sure there can be time allotted for that in the schedule (the project is currently on pace for a December 2012 release). Would Jon Hamm be the perfect Superman? Absolutely, but that doesn't mean it's going to happen.

To ease the pain, here is a video featuring Hamm as Superman's greatest villain, Lex Luthor. There's always an opening there...
