Sons Of Anarchy's Katey Sagal Joins Pitch Perfect 2

Pitch Perfect 2 has just added a substantial bit of musical and comedic talent to its cast with one great addition. Sons of Anarchy star Katey Sagal has signed on for the Pitch Perfect sequel. No details about her role have been divulged yet, but factoring in Sagal's demonstrated comedic and musical talent, the news is well worth celebrating regardless of who she's playing.

Variety posted the casting news, noting that Katey Sagal is joining the Pitch Perfect 2 cast. Already confirmed to appear in the musical-comedy sequel are returners Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow and Adam DeVine. Sagal joins Hailee Steinfeld among the Pitch Perfect newcomers.

As Variety notes, details on the plot of Pitch Perfect 2 are slim, and the casting updates aren't offering much on that front either. Pitch Perfect arrived in theaters in fall of 2012 and centered on Anna Kendrick's Beca, a reluctant college student killing time DJing at her campus radio station and joining one of the college's a cappella groups, The Bellas. The story has the struggling group of misfit female singers facing off against the more successful, all-male a cappella group, the Treblemakers, led by Adam DeVine's arrogant character, Bumper.

So, who could Sagal be playing in Pitch Perfect 2? That's anyone's guess, but what we do know is that she's funny, and she can sing. Her role as the tough-as-nails mother and "old lady" on Sons of Anarchy doesn't offer much room for humor -- unless you want to laugh at Gemma's wry comments about the people she doesn't like -- but Sagal's well known for playing the lovably lazy housewife Peg Bundy in Married with Children and voicing the role of Leela in Futurama.

Sagal also has a notable career in music. Not only has she performed with Bette Midler, and sang back-up for Bob Dylan and others, but she's also released her own albums. And Sons of Anarchy have been treated to samples of Sagal's singing talents throughout the series, as her recordings have been included on the soundtrack for the FX biker drama...

She can certainly sing! Whether or not the film takes advantage of that remains to be seen, but hopefully it will. In the meantime, this is one more piece to the Pitch Perfect 2 puzzle, as we wait patiently for the film to arrive, which -- as it happens -- is set to happen exactly one year from tomorrow. Pitch Perfect 2 is scheduled to release into theaters on May 15, 2015.
