Strange Star Trek Rumors![]()
Some completely crazy, confusing, hard to understand rumors regarding the course of JJ Abrams upcoming Star Trek prequel have just popped up over at AICN. I’m going to do my best to report them, but they’ve been posted in such a weird, rambling, ranting style that it’s almost impossible to sort the actual rumors out from the author’s speculation or for that matter, figure out how much of it is actually worth believing. Personally, I’m hoping none of it.
Apparently for undisclosed reasons, AICN believes that Leonard Nimoy is actually the star of the new Star Trek movie. He’s the star of the movie because they think some sort of time travel plot is involved in which Romulans go back in time to kill the father of James T. Kirk. Old Spock goes back in time to stop them, or something. In the process an alternate timeline is created, where Abrams can be lazy and do any damn thing he wants with Star Trek cannon and completely change everything we’ve ever loved about Star Trek because it takes place in a new universe altered by some sort of idiotic time travel plot. This makes about as much sense as those rumors that Jurassic Park IV will have gun-toting dinosaurs… which by the way also started at AICN and which have recently been confirmed to be true. It sounds like an asinine idea, as if Abrams is making one big movie which exists only as a way to construct a cheap excuse for him to ignore established Star Trek continuity. In way that makes sense, since he’s said over and over again that his prequel is a way of “going back” to a simpler time when there’s less baggage. Well if this is true he’s not just going back, he’s going back and throwing everything we know and care about out the window so that he won’t have to think about it. |
