I'm going to tell you something about Saw V, and no, I haven't even seen it yet. But I predict that it will be complacent and arrogant, riding off the success of the previous movies without offering much of anything new.
I make this very rash judgment based on the new trailer, which Lionsgate debuted at Comic Con and is posted below. Pretty much the entire trailer is a joke that makes you think the movie will be about Jesus, then pulling the rug out from under you and saying "Just kidding! It's another Saw movie, and we know you'll see it because you've seen all the other ones! Just trust us on this one, OK??" There is a little shot of a guy with his head in a box, trying to make his way out, but this is just a teaser, plain and simple.
I have nothing against teaser trailers as a rule, but it annoys me how this one just announces that Saw owns Halloween, and therefore you will run out to see it. It's as if they're announcing outright that they haven't really come up with any new ideas, now that they've realized their target audience doesn't care. I'm not remotely within that audience, so maybe I'm a bad judge, but something about this whole thing just seems unforgivably lazy.

articles like this really bug me. people need to STOP being so critical of the Saw movies. they are pure entertainment. People don't complain when they make new Harry Potter movies (even though they are books), so why can't it be the same with Saw? they said that they are making 6 movies, so it gets annoying when people say "Another one??" because they have said they are making 6 A LONG TIME AGO. And also, one more thing. When you say it bugs you that Saw said it "owns Halloween".. do you see any other cringing. disturbing, and decently GOOD movies that come out on Halloween? no. so just shut up and enjoy them. or, better yet, don't enjoy them. don't even go to the movie. because true Saw fans don't want people who bash the movies in the theater to begin with.
I was done with this article after the first sentence. The article is just as arrogant as what the author claims the films to be. If you don't like the film, that's fine, but you're reporting on a trailer, when did that require personal feelings to be portrayed? And at any rate, the people who will see this film are going to be the fans. Saw stopped catering to the causal horror/film fan a long time ago, if it ever did to begin with.
