Much like John Cusack's character, Rob Gordon, in High Fidelity, director Danny Boyle appears to be at a point in his career where he's looking back at all of the thing's he's done. Just a couple months back the director talked about revisiting the universe he created in 28 Days Later with 28 Months Later, and now he's venturing back even further with Trainspotting.

Moviefone recently spoke with the director that confirmed that a sequel to Trainspotting will happen, but that he's simply waiting for the proper time. According to the director, the sequel will be an adaptation of Porno by Irvine Welsh, who wrote the book that the first film is based on, but even admits that the material isn't as strong as the original, which he rightly calls "a masterpiece." He does say, however, that they've done considerable work with the material and that "when the moment's right" they'll tackle it. Earlier this year, star Ewan McGregor told fans of the first movie to not hold their breath waiting for a sequel to be made, saying that he wouldn't want to make a film that would tarnish the reputation of the original.

There's no denying that Trainspotting is a truly phenomenal film, but I, much like McGregor, wouldn't want to see a sequel if it truly isn't up to snuff. Following 127 Hours, Slumdog Millionaire, Sunshine and 28 Days Later I am inclined to trust Boyle implicitly, but even the best of us make judgment mistakes from time to time. We've been hearing about a potential Trainspotting sequel for so long now, I think it may just be time to give up the dream.
