The Transformers Invade Hogwarts As Michael Bay Starts Filming At A Famous Harry Potter Location

Hogwarts

It's quite common for the same locations to be used in movies multiple times. However, we can't think of a time that two more different films shot on the same spot. Transformers: The Last Knight just started filming at Alnwick Castle, the site that was previously seen on the big screen as the home of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The location shooting for the newest Transformers movie has been something of a world traveling affair. The movie did some shooting in Cuba, then they moved to the mountains of Scotland. While Michael Bay and his team are still in the UK, they've moved down to the English county of Northumberland. The Daily Mail has several images of Mark Wahlberg and Sir Anthony Hopkins shooting scenes together What struck us, however, was mention that the scenes were being shot in front of Alnwick Castle. While Alnwick has been used as a location shoot for movies and television for decades, one its most recent uses recently has been as part of the Harry Potter series. Chris Columbus used it to shoot some of the exteriors of Hogwarts for both Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. It appears that once Columbus handed over the reins of directing the series, other locations were used.

Exactly what is happening on the grounds of Alnwick Castle is difficult to ascertain. It appears that only a brief portion of the film will take place there, as the location has only been secured by Transformers 5 through Saturday. Having said that, the Mail reports that some explosions were set off on set, and Mark Wahlberg's wardrobe seems to imply that he was in the middle of it. Sir Anthony Hopkins, on the other hand, looks dapper as ever. Reporting explosions on the set of a Transformers movie may not be breaking news, but there you go.

It's not clear if Transformers: The Last Knight is filming in the castle itself or just in front of it. Since the film's plot apparently involves references to King Arthur and Merlin, one assumes there will certainly be castles. We'll be keeping our eyes open for Transformers in the same place Harry Potter learned to fly a broom.

Transformers and Harry Potter. Have two more different films ever been shot in the same place? If you're familiar with a time that's happened, let us know about it in the comments.
