Deadpool 2 May Want A Stranger Things Actor For A Pivotal Role

Ever since Wade Wilson mentioned in the Deadpool post-credits scene (while wearing his Ferris Bueller robe) that Cable would be introduced in the Merc with the Mouth's sequel, fans have been wondering who will play the badass mutant from the future on the big screen. There have been quite a few names rumored or suggested, from Pierce Brosnan to Russell Crowe, but so far there have been any significant hints about who's being considered. However, the latest news on this front suggests that Stranger Things star David Harbour may be up to play the cinematic Cable.

David Harbour as Jim Hopper in Stranger Things

According to The Wrap, 20th Century Fox is eyeing David Harbour to play Cable in Deadpool 2, and the actor has reportedly also screen-tested for the role. This doesn't necessarily mean he will obtain the part, but it sounds like he's one of the top Cable candidates, if not the top. If David Harbour is cast as Cable in Deadpool 2, it will be his third time appearing in a superhero movie. The first time was when he played District Attorney Frank Scanlon in The Green Hornet, and the second time was playing Dexter Tolliver in Suicide Squad over at DC.

Cable in the comics holding gun

Nowadays, David Harbour is best known for his leading role as Chief Jim Hopper in Netflix's Stranger Things, a character he'll reprise later this year in the show's second season. On the movie side of things (besides what was mentioned above), his notable credits include Quantum of Solace, End of Watch, The Equalizer and Black Mass, while on television, he had recurring roles on Pan Am, The Newsroom and State of Affairs. In the comics, Cable is Nathan Summers, the son of Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor, who was sent to the future, but returned to the present as an adult. Cable is an older mutant, so Harbour is about the right age to faithfully play him, and since the man is already pretty tall, with a little extra time in the gym, he'd surely achieve the proper larger build.

Casting-wise, no new actors have been officially announced for Deadpool 2 yet, but it's been confirmed that Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Colossus and Dopinder the cab driver will all return for the sequel. Besides Cable, the other big character who will be introduced in Deadpool 2 is Domino, Deadpool and Cable's fellow X-Force member. It was rumored last month that Kerry Washington was being considered to play Domino, but the actress later said that talks hadn't actually begun yet.

Directed by John Wick's David Leitch and written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (with assistance from Drew Goddard), Deadpool 2 is expected to hit theaters sometime next year.
