Should Chris Brown Have Been Asked To Perform At The Grammys?

Three years ago, Chris Brown was scheduled to perform alongside his then girlfriend Rihanna at the Grammy Awards. The gig never happened. Prior to the ceremony, the pair attended a pre-party, and all hell broke loose. He was later arrested for domestic assault, she left him and after a horrifying photo of the damage he inflicted surfaced, his reputation suffered immensely.

Brown has reclaimed some of his former glory since the traumatic incident, but he’s still stayed away from the Grammys despite being nominated several times. Now that’s about to change. According to The San Jose Mercury, Brown will perform at this year’s ceremony, as will Rihanna. Rumors of an easing of tensions between the two have emerged over the past few weeks with some even speculating the pair could eventually get back together. None of that has been proven, but Rihanna did ask a judge to remove a fifty yard restraining order that was in effect.

Whether or not the two will mingle prior to the Grammys is anyone’s guess, but the decision to allow him to sing has attracted its share of critics. Many people are still unwilling to forgive Brown for the assault that took place, and they don’t think he should be allowed anywhere near a stage of this magnitude.

It’s really a complicated issue on many fronts. Sadly, a large number of men are arrested every year for domestic assault. No one’s proud of the figures, but for the most part, we tend to let these men return to work and get on with their lives. Seeing as how he’s a celebrity, letting him get back to work involves glitzy celebrations and occasionally, being in the same room as Rihanna.
