How The Regular Show Team Feels About The Series Ending

regular show finale

Last night, Regular Show aired its last episode on Cartoon Network, bringing full closure to a series that started off small and ended up taking its characters into space later on. Few shows on Cartoon Network end up lasting as long as Regular Show did---we can only think of Regular Show's fellow partner Adventure Time lasting longer, and it's clear that there are a lot of feelings related to Regular Show ending its run. Just a few days ago at a screening of the final episode, some of the cast and crew spoke out about their feelings on the series ending. William Salyers, who voiced Rigby, had this to say about the end:

It was six amazing years of my life, it was never not fun to go to work, and you can't say that about a lot of jobs.

When shows last for a long time on the air, a lot of times friendships and relationships are built that can't be broken. It's not a huge shock that Salyers would feel proud of the work he did but a little bittersweet too, and per Variety, that seemed to be the tone at the screening for the Regular Show finale. At the screening, show creator J.G. Quintel also said that because of the way Regular Show is created, he was still around as other people related to the show finished up their jobs and moved on to new positions elsewhere, which was a tough thing to see happen.

The good news? Cartoon Network really gave the show a lot of notice so that the creative team could figure out how to end the series properly. Formerly, J.G. Quintel revealed that after Cartoon Network announced the show would end after Season 8, they worked out a plan to allow the series to end on a satisfactory note. He told iDigitalTimes that they were able to "set in motion" how they wanted the show to end, so there were really no regrets about where the show ended up.

When asked if he felt it was the right decision for the series to end, he had the following to say:

I definitely feel it was the right time. I feel we definitely got to explore everything we wanted to explore without it running into the ground where 'let's just keep making them until they get really bad.' I didn't want it to turn into that. I really think these are a solid set of episodes of a series I'm really proud of and I don't regret anything about it.

Regular Show definitely had a good run. Over six years, the animated series produced eight seasons and 265 episodes, not to mention specials and a movie. It has grown a really large fanbase who will fondly remember the series and its built a creative team skilled enough to hopefully put together some other great projects for Cartoon Network and other animated forums. It always sucks when something you love ends and Regular Show ending on a bittersweet note---SPOILERS---with Pops dying will certainly leave some fans yearning for more, even if the show did head back to the park for some closure in the end.
