Ricky Gervais Is Cutting His Gag In The 2012 Golden Globe PosterAuthor: Jesse Carp

The Golden Globe Awards are approaching fast. Sure, they may play second fiddle to the more prestigious Emmys or Academy Awards but the mere fact that they've brought back Ricky Gervais as host almost guarantees that the show itself will be second to none. Even with the big hubbub about his hosting job last year, when all those celebrities got their egos in a knot, NBC and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association decided to give the playful comic another shot at roasting the room.
In typical Hollywood fashion, the story went from the HFPA announcing that Ricky Gervais would never host the show again after last year, even going as far as tossing around ridiculous words like 'banned.' Then NBC realized that the ratings and buzz surrounding the show, namely the potential for cash, outweighed the possibly hurt, rich and famous egos in attendance. This isn't just a good business decision from the network but also one that seems to actually take the fans into consideration. Of course, I'm sure bringing the British comic back was more about the money than the fans, but it's nice to pretend that the network at our best interests at heart. The awards show is set to air on Sunday, January 15 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and they have finally rolled out another print ad for the event. The poster, a clever and simple design, was shared by Ricky Gervais on his twitter page this morning and reinforces that with him as the host the gloves are definitely coming off (or, in this case, the gag is being cut). I can't wait to see him tear the entire room apart because, even if they weren't laughing at the Beverly Hilton, we were surely all laughing at home. Here's the poster (and to see the full list of nominees, click here). ![]() |
